Technology these days is absolutely everywhere, and ignoring the obvious phone or computer that you’re using to read this, you probably have a fair few other bits of tech either on you or around you right now.

Disclaimer - In the past, I know I've been guilty of adding to the enormous pile of ‘tech is bad’ articles, but a couple of weeks ago I came across an app that changed my mindset completely. Let's get started!

Bemyeyes.com

Be My Eyes is a smartphone app that connects people who have no/impaired vision with “sighted volunteers and company representatives”. With a single tap of a button, someone who needs assistance can start a video chat with a kind volunteer who can help them with the task at hand.

Reading labels, explaining art, offering a bit of fashion advice etc. can be done with this app, which doesn’t sound like much, but to someone with no/low vision, it allows them to lead a more independent lifestyle. All thanks to an army of kind legends waiting to be called upon.

Take a look

FreeRice.com

We love this website. So much in fact that it inspired a Good&Kind act!

Free Rice is an online platform that has combined learning and food donation. Answer a question right, then FreeRice.com will donate 10 grains of rice on your behalf.

Again, it doesn’t sound like much, but you could quickfire 10 questions in a matter of minutes and just like magic, you have donated 100 grains of rice through the World Food Programme. Now imagine if a whole office did this for 10 minutes during their lunch break. Now, that’s a lot of food.

Social media

Okay, hear me out here…Social media is an incredible tool full of great opportunities. However, you only really hear about the bad stuff. That has started to change in recent years as some amazing stuff has been cutting through the noise.

Hashtag movements like #MeToo and #TrashTag have been uniting millions of people together in a common cause and there is no doubt at all – they have had a huge positive impact on the world!

But even if you look at social media on a 1-1 level, that little message from a friend could be the difference between a good day and a great day.

So yes, social media can be one of the best tools to create change. It just depends on how you use it!

We know there are countless other bits of technology that do amazing stuff, and we'll be sure to expand on this list in the future. In the meantime though, let us know in the comments below any bits of tech that you think are particularly amazing!
