Kindness is something that most of us want to nurture within ourselves, but in the fast-paced lifestyles that many of us lead, it can difficult to find the time.

Luckily, there are plenty of acts of kindness which you can do in your lunch hour. Here are some of our favourites:

Pay a compliment

Although this is perhaps the simplest and quickest act on the list, it is one of the most powerful. Paying someone a genuine compliment helps to boost their self-esteem and brighten their day. Plus, doing this regularly trains your mind to look for the best in people!

Sign up to the organ donor register

Is there anything more superhero than saving a life? Registering to be an organ donor takes you less than two minutes but can give the recipient tens of years which they might have otherwise lost out on.

Buy from an independent shop

Forgot to bring your lunch? Instead of heading to that same chain you always make a beeline for, why not buy from an independent instead? It’s nice to try something new, and the money you spend is likely to make a much bigger difference to them than it would to the shops who are already doing very well for themselves.

Switch your web browser to Ecosia

Here’s one you can do without even leaving your desk! Take a second to think about how many times you use a web browser during your day. Wouldn’t it be nice if some good came from it?

Ecosia is like any other web browser, except they use the revenue generated by searches to plant trees, so you can be a keyboard warrior and an eco warrior at the same time.

Cheer someone up with a small gift

You never know what other people are feeling or going through, which is why it’s so important to be kind whenever you can. A small gesture or gift can make someone’s day, and cheer is contagious!

Why not try one of these small gift ideas?

  • Post a packet of seeds
  • Print and share a group photo
  • Send flowers to a relative
  • Buy from a vending machine and leave it
